I have a 2001 900 which had recently been painted.  But I was never able to remove the fuel cap. Yes I pulled all the allen screws and all the small set screws but still couldn't get it off, either could the painter.  It will go in for new paint this week again but I don't want the painter to have to mask around it again.  Any tips on getting this off.
Thanks Jason

Did the same thing - painted the tank on my '01 M900ie. After pulling all the set screws all the way out, it took lots of coaxing but in the end it was just the rubber seal ring holding it in. Lots of careful prying back and forth and it eventually popped out.  I had also disconnected all hoses by that point too . . .

use a small hammer like a puller (unless you actually have some sort of puller). Stick one side in and pop it a couple times and will come out. The cap is pretty sturdy and can take a bit of abuse, but still.....be somewhat gentle.

I've had some vent line issues and have had to take the cap off about 8 times in the last 2 weeks.........so getting pretty good at it. :)

The handle of a hammer stuck into the fill hole will give you enough leverage to pop it out

Really?

I do it that way all the time without issue.

Did you just lean on it or did you 'shock' it?
