Ok so for the longest time, whats stopped me from eventually swapping in a big ol' 1000ds engine and feed it with carbs has been overcoming the ignition issue. I like to use things I'm familiar with and that I know work - hence the 2 kokusan triggers mounted to 2 studs and a lump on the flywheel.

I've heard rumors of 1000ds engines having these drilled and tapped holes, and I know for a fact most ie 900 engines have them. I know there are other ways including hall effect coils and using an ignitech with a certain sensor on the DS engine but I'm specifically interested in knowing WHICH engines have these holes. It just doesn't get any simply than adding 2 studs plus pickups and a bracket then drilling / tapping the stator cover and installing a gland nut for the wiring.

So I guess I'm asking those of you who KNOW whether your fuelie engine has the provisions to add these 6mm studs.

Check out this pic of a fuelie 2002 900ie and not where I've circled.

To convert this engine to carbs couldn't be simpler - add 2 studs, the pickups + bracket, then either modify your stator cover or perhaps a 1998 cover would fit. Boom done.

I know there are other engines that have em, and I'm highly interested in which ones. Ducati as we know liked to use up all their castings whenever possible. I'm REALLY curious if there's 800 and 1000 engines that have em.

On that note if anyone ever gets a lead on the ultra rare M1000 NON dual spark engine, HMU...

As cost cutting measures progressed, unnecessary things got eliminated.  Such is the way of the world, of course.

With regard to a DS1000 motor with the drilled & tapped carbed ignition pick-ups go, I think you're out of luck but not by much.  *IF* I remember correctly, the early DS1000 motors (2003) had some pieces w/casting dates of 2000, 2001 & 2002.  I have seen the posts there for the ignition pick-ups, but they weren't drilled & tapped.  So, a little bit of work there.

What are you talking about w/this M1000 single plug engine?  I've never heard of it.  By the time they dropped one of the plugs, the 1000 had grown to 1100 and became the EVO motor...

My bad, I'd always thought the original M1000 with the DSSA was a non DS motor.

2003 until whenever the 1100 went 'EVO' = dual spark plugs.  waytogo
