I really should stay off of Craigs List.  $1500 for a 2001 M750.  Hasn't run in three years.  http://annapolis.craigslist.org/mcy/3508402891.html

I had a '99 750 and it was a great bike.
Seems like a good deal if you are a little mechanically inclined and can do a little work on it yourself.

Whoa the carbie final edition!  They went to FI for 2002.  I love mine.  Other than cleaning the heck out of the carbs, change belts, maybe rust in tank, should be fine.  I'd ask if the motor turns. Assuming it stopped running because of the owner and not a broken belt or something.  On the other hand I think I saw a 900ss motor on craig's for $400 lately.

And you'll always be trying to go to 6th gear after 80mph.  There's only five.

Mongo hit the points.

You're going to be spending a good bit of  time and $s going though to get it up an (safely) runnings.

- Carbs will need a going through
- Couple oils changes - start with cheap stuff, run for 15-20 and dump
- Forks should be pulled apart and gone over - check them out for pitting/rust first
- Ensure the engine turns
- Belts must be replaced
- Tires must be replaced.
- Wheel bearings probably need to be replaced
- Tank gone over
- Probably needs a new battery

If you do all the work yourself, I'd figure $500-600 in parts to get is to a proper safe running condition. And that's excluding any 'gotcha' monies.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

- '07 Triumph 675 Track bike.

Great salesmanship. Showing the bike uncovered and left out in the snow, next to a bike with a cover.

That poor bike!  She needs home?  Won't somebody help?  I've got three bikes in various states of repair, I'd have snagged that one if they had her out before I got the 74 Honda Scrambler.

It is unfortunate, such a fine & reliable machine.  I should add cross fingers with the fuel pump & petcock, both vaccuum operated.  I don't know if they like to sit.

I never bother with my forks, but mine's always been covered. Yes, if my fork oil isn't dust, it's 13 years old  ;D

the only thing that stinks to me is the cluster....it looks like an 02 cluster due to the little immobilizer light right above the 2 buttons...if it is an actual 02 instead ( calling it an '01 due to production date regardless of what the VIN says it actually is)....that means immobilizer that then opens up the whole black keeys/1 red key thing....

I got a good laugh out of the ......."Took it to local motorcycle shop to get it running and they took it apart and put in a sea crate. "....LOL

Zoom just pegged it - that's an '02 upon closer inspection.  The dash looks funny. No grey carb pods, funny bulge in the panel under the seat, no hoop rear suspension.  Immobiler - I was wondering why the post said "new ignition".

Yeah, what does "and they took it apart and put in a sea crate" mean?

Based off the DOD decal on the fork and the Hawaii stickers on the rear fender, he probably brought it to a dealer in Hawaii, couldn't get it running and then got orders out here.  They boxed it up in a crate and shipped it out here and so it sits and he is trying to sell now.

JoeP

FWIW I bought a 2001 m600 from someone in the army who was stationed in Hawaii and had the bike shipped here. It only had 3000 miles on it so I knew it probably sat unridden for a long time. After changing all the fluids, belts, and tires that thing ran like clockwork. I'm sorry I sold it.

Hoopy suspension went away in for the 2001 models - so that's correct.

I figured the "sea crate" was actually SeaFoam and he didn't know what it was really called....kinda like doomathanger or whatchamajigger or thingamabob

The Mad King Pepe'

Definitely not a carbie, cluster and triples, and rod vs hoop are a dead giveaway. Pity to see it in such condition, looks un-loved  :'(   If I had money to spare I'd grab it, fix it up and sell it in spring for a profit!
