Ordered FCR's and now can't decide what type of filter

So I ordered a pair of FCR 41's and after talking to Chris at Ca-cycleworks I am really up in the air about what filter setup to go with. According to Chris he says to stick with the stock air box but everything that I am reading is saying to at a minimum to cut the box if not to go with pod's. I am not one to ignore the fact that Chris has the kind of experience that I can only hope to have one day. But a second opinion (or a few in this case) can't hurt so anyone with incite please let me know what you think.

There's a thread right here in "Tech" about pods vs airbox: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=50422.0

Apparently the airbox (with a cut off top) gives better performance, but the pods are lighter and make it much easier to work on the bike.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

IMO, whether you run a stock air box, open air box with K&N DU 0900 or run K&N 1750 pod filters, be prepared to adjust your jetting. The supplied jetting will of course usually be closest to your requirements with a stock air box.

I will be testing pods next week, but I can say the open air box does work well. See the bikeboy site re open air box for 2 valve carb bikes and intake mods threads.

Ducatiz as allways thanks for the help/link I am digging that lid replacement deal.

So KoKo in your experience I am going to need to re-jet the FCR's either way I go (pods or cut up stock box). Will the jet kit that I need differ from one choice to the other or is it a nominal difference between the two.

Even with all this info at my finger tips I am still finding this to be a tough choice. I realize that with my limited skill set I problay won't miss the performance but at the same time logic is asking why spend all this money that I have spent and not squeeze every drop of performance that I can out of the mod. Guess this is nothing new the same old form over function debate. I guess time will tell thanks again fellas.

The big difference in jetting is between stock air box and open air box/pods.

On the two conversions I have done from open air box to pods, I have kept the same main jets, same slow fuel jets and same as delivered needle (EMT). One was with 39FCRs, one with 41FCRs. The changes were around adjustments to the slow air jet /adjustable air screw (God bless Chris for those) and needle position. There may be a need to go up or down a main jet or two, but at least you are in the ball park when comparing open air boxes and pods. In contrast, I had to increase the main jet four sizes when moving from stock to open air box/pods.

A simple approach could be just removing the snorkles, fitting a K&N filter and leaving the as delivered main jets. Remember, if you go to pods you will have deal with relocating the ignition and battery components. I seperated the battery box from the air box, purchased a Shorai battery and shoved the lot in the battery box! I can go back to using the air box if I like.

Yeah if I do go with the pods I am thinking that I will either take a dremel to my box or pick up another. That way I can keep only that mounting bracket and not have to bother with all the relocation.

Keeping the airbox still isn't a straight swap. You have to cut the airbox a little for that too.

Mod w airbox:

If you ask Chris again, more precisely, I`m sure he recommends airbox lid off.

Yeah after all the reading up I have done on the topic there is no denying that the cut air box is best option.

Really neat product from Fast By Ferracci. So thanks for all the input fellas.

Damn I like the look of the pods but doesn't make sense to me to spend the $ on the carbs and not take full advantage of there capability.

Hey SM, I just got back from the dyno, if you wanna have a look.
