M696 Can't Lock Steering

I bought a used 09 M696 and the steering lock pin doesn't align to properly go into the triple. The pin hits too high up in the triple. There doesn't seem to be anything missing/added to account for the height difference. Any ideas?

Bike had < 1200 miles on it and it was totally clean. So it's not like it hit anything in order to cause the alignment issues.

I dont own a 696 and have no idea what the steering lock looks like. When you say too high up how far are we talking? 1mm 2mm

Does anything look bent?

Is the pin directly under the hole or is it also off to the side?

Has the handle bar been altered?  I had the same problem when I installed handle bar. When I got home after dealer installed the rizoma handle bar, I couldn't lock it, It was jus a little to the side. Called the dealership , they said it has to stay that way so the bar doesn;t hit the tank,fell it was b.s . Took it to a local dealer, they adjusted the handle bar so it would lock now, took less than 5 mins.

And even if you do not have aftermarket handle bar, it could be they have altered it to adjust the handlebar.
