(PITA) S2R gearing, an open question to the collective

Okay, I have a 2008 S2R 1000, only mods to the bike have been the Termi slip ons / DP ECU and a 14T front sprocket to make things interesting.

However, I'm still at odds with how the gearing feels to me.  It still seems to be geared too tall.  In other words, it's often difficult to be able to use one gear for a constant 45-50 mph.  Sometimes, 3rd is fine, and it's running at about 4500-4750 rpm, if 4th is used, it's bogging near 4k.

Basically what I'm trying to describe is a symptom of two things.  1) does anyone else feel there is a wide gap between 3rd and 4th when simply puttering around?  The gearing between 2nd and 3rd is fine, then when I upshift to 4th, it often feels like a large jump in gearing.

Yes, I do know Ducatis like to be 'on the boil' and it's not a tractor like a, HD.  The sweet spot for the S2R is 4500 and up but unless you're putting the spurs to the bike, it feels like there's some inconsistency with the ratios.

Back to the final drive for a moment.  If I am running a 14T/41, has anyone geared it to 14T/43 etc?  I'd be curious to know your thoughts as the S2R has a lot of headroom in the revs.

The distance from 3rd to 4th won't change more than the ~ 4% you get by going from 41 to 43.

Maybe this is more about which rev range you're using.....   Our engines are in no way hurt by working around 5/6,000 revs.
