help needed..........this morning i found my starter motor sticking on start up from a single press of the button but i couldnt tell whether the starter turns off upon engine running cause of the noise from motor..has anyone experienced this problem, is there a dash light to look for once motor is running, would the starter be making louder noise than motor if still on?

I would imagine if the starter was stuck engaged it would make some noise. Have you taken the cover off to take a look?

Any maintenance done lately?

Not sure about the entire lineup, but the starter on my S2R  remains engaged until start-up with the single tap of the button...  Sounds normal to me.  Funny story involving latched start circuit:  I've got all of my start/safety interlocks bypassed and once accidentally brushed across the starter button while installing my gloves, ignition on and in gear...   Well, the bike lurched forward and proceeded to stumble and gallop across the parking lot while I was tryin the figure out what had just possessed the bike.
I ride both kinds,   Country, and Western.....

Just fixed a similar problem on my ST4, rode for about 20 miles when the starter started making weird screaming noises, turned out that the starter button was stuck in.
I had to pull the starter out because every time I went to use it, it would make those noises again, A so called expert told me the starter was shot so I thought I would have a go at fixing it, turns out that the bearing on the shaft had no grease in it, so after a good clean using some electrical cleaner grease in the bearing and a tiny bit of grease on the bush at the other end of the shaft it spun beautifully and its still working ok.
Oh! By the way, the reason the starter button was sticking was caused by excess wiring inside the starter switch stopping the button from coming back out after pressing it.
Hope this helps
