2001 m900 rebuild help

I almost done rebuilding my 01 cromo. I've powdercoated the frame, rearset brackets, triples, headlight rim and a few other things and I've fitted sbk forks and an under engine roadracing exhaust. I will post some pics in the next couple of days once I get it running.


To that end, I have an issue that's probably simple, but my tiny mechanically impared brain can't figure out.  With the bike in neutral (on a stand) the rear wheel only turns about 3/4 of a full turn and stops....... and I can't figure out why. It will turn forward 3/4 of a turn and backwards 3/4 of a turn, but stops dead. What have I done?

take the chain off and see if it's still binding. maybe your axle is misaligned or bent.

Have you installed the spacer backwards and a sprocket bolt is hitting?

I'm pretty certain the axle isn't bent or misaligned, but I will take the chain off and give it a check.

I'm also pretty sure I put the spacer on correctly (have done it backwards before) but I will double check it....... it wouldn't be the first time I've made the same mistake twice.

I still don't know what the issue was. I took the wheel off today, took it apart, (everything looked fine), put it back together, remounted it and it spun perfectly. I must have done something wrong the first time, but I can't figure what it was.


Soooo....... next thing was to throw some oil in the engine and some gas in the tank and nervously press the starter.


Vroom, Vroom, Vroom....... and a little spin around the block.


tomorrow a much longer ride through some local twisties to check out the new sbk forks.

I will say.....the roadracing exhaust is F*&#ing loud. It sounds great.....but loud.

I did get out for a long ride on Thursday and again on Friday. SBK forks are fantastic and a nice upgrade from the stock ones.

The roadracing exhaust sounds bad ass, but it's way too loud. If anyone has a suggestion for muffling them, I'd reallly like to hear it. If I can't find a way to quiet them, they will be going up for sale soon. 10 years ago I would have loved them and been happy as hell with the volume, but I'm getting old.
