Has anyone successfully removed the wires/pins from the controls and gauges loom plugs? i need to shorten my loom up front but would rather avoid soldered and heat shrunk joins.

I've tried using pin extractors that they use on the airliners to no success.. Any help appreciated.

Haven't done that to the gauge plug.

Which other plugs are you wanting to do?

I've worked it out for the two hand control plugs. just finished shortening the left control but it was a bit of a pain in the arse.

i don't really wanna do the right control anymore, so I'm now wondering if i can buy a new plug or at least new pins so i don't have to reuse the old pins again. somewhere on this forum i recall someone finding a supplier for the gauge plug. does anyone recall who or where that was?

depending on the types of terminals they are and the "locks" or "retainers" that are made on to them, there are many varied types of de-pinning tools....I have access to a kit at work that we use all the time for de-pinning connectors....usually it is because the connector was in a place that wasn't supposed to get wet and did, and the pins corroded and the factory protocal is to do it this way rather than build and replace with a pigtail....not a simple straight forward thing...

for the hand control connectors on the m800, and likely most all ducatis/monsters, the male body needs the yellow retaining clip in the centre popped out with a thin flat blade and then the female pins can be released from the contacting side of the body by gently prizing the black retaining tang (part of the main connector body) from the arched side of the pin and pulled out the rear of the connector. The female connector body needs the white retaining clip removed by a thin flat blade prying the side inwards a little and pulled out of the connector with needle nose pliers. then the male pins can be removed by lifting the small black retaining tangs (part of the main connector body) and then removing the pin out the rear.

I'm hoping those description make sense to other ppl when they are holding the connectors in their hands..

i found a couple of useful threads about parts supplies and numbers, ill link here incase someone stumbles on this thread looking.

ill go for a drive to the local stockist tmr and test out some of the part numbers listed. I'm now mainly just after some replacement pins so i can shorten the loom and then reuse the seals and bodies of the existing connectors for the hand controls. the part number 183024-1 is listed in the second thread as being the pins i want but the measurements in the diagram don't measure up exactly. ill also look into the gauge cluster plug (not listed in thread but i think its 3-1437290-7) but i think 26 pins is more trouble than ill bother with for the 3 inches i wanna remove from that part of the loom.
