Custom CF for cored and shortened exhaust
«

So I have a friend who works with carbon fiber and he says he can make me tubes if I give him the dimensions. My mind immediately jumps to coring and shortening my stock exhaust (04 620). Could I remove the aluminum outer body, have him mold the CF around this (for the shape, slipping it off after curing) and use both end caps of the original exhaust riveted in place with the shortened baffle inside? Is this crazy or brilliant... because I'm thinking brilliant.
Thanks guys

If he molds it around the existing aluminum outer body, it'll be too big.

Agreed, however the CF will only be oversized by the thickness of the Alum. Looking at images it doesnt look especailly thick to me. I dont think it would be very tough to bump the end caps out to a slightly larger diameter to match the CF. What i am worried about is the lower end cap doesnt look like it has any exposed welds like the upper that can be broken with a dremel. Has anyone removed this before, or know of a way to?
Maybe I should just try and make the whole baffle and housing from scratch?
