I'm working on a project for school and need some info.

On modern 2v heads, specifically the DS 1000 and 1100, what type of material do they use for the valve seats? What about guides?

Where is the input for the camshaft lubrication? The return?

And lastly, what is the system for lubing the rockers? All I can find pictures of are older version heads where the rocker shafts have helical grooves, which seems like it would be sufficient given the amount of cast off oil from the camshaft. Still the same?

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

Valve guides are tin bronze CuSn10Zn or aluminum bronze CuZn40Al2.  I believe all the later models are now alu bronze.

Valve seats are iron.

Cams are lubed both by a galley which "spits" oil into the rocker compartment and then splash.  The helical grooves draw it thru when moving (and retain it when still).  The upward galley is the end of the pressure path.  I have some diagrams I can post.

There is a separate hole which drops thru the jug into the crankcase.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Awesome! Thank you.

Just from looking at this picture:

I'm going to guess that the counter bored hole almost opposite the spark plug is the oil feed, and the holes outboard of the cylinder stud holes are the returns?

I honestly can't tell you just by looking at that, I don't remember.  If you have the case you can match the holes, the return holes just dump into the case, splash lubing the crank, at least the vertical does, I think the horizontal setup is different since you have gravity working with you

That looks like a Horizontal head, which would make since that the return would be lower, but I would have assumed the feed to be on the high side.

Not my pic, I just lifted it from Ducati.ms via teh Google.

Judging from the orientation of the cooling fins, I was assuming it was a vertical head.  ???

lol, i was thinking there was a flat deck on both heads where they meet the cylinder..i just went into my garage and looked at a pair i have on the floor and (duh) only the vertical has it..

i was trying to orient off the exhaust

so my comment about the locations makes sense.

the horizontal head (that i just looked at) has the same two holes with the larger on the down-side of the head.

No worries. I appreciate the help!  [beer]

One more question you might know the answer to:

Is there a difference in rockers between motors?

Yes, but I cannot explain the differences or the "families" that exist.

I know the older small engines are different from the large case models and of course the 4v are different.
