Typically, unless you flog it and your bike is not modified with a different ecu/exhaust you should be able to do 100 miles easily without worrying. When you start getting more confidence, learn when your light turns on and how much gas you can put in. Most Monsters have 14-16 liter (total tanks) or 3.5-3.8 US gallons. In my 2009 696 I get 3 gallons on when the light turns on and I sit on the bike to keep it straight when filling up (you probably get another 500 ml of gas in that way). If I ride all in the city I usually get 120-130 miles before my light turns on; if on the highway, usually 150-160 miles.

For the guy with the 796 ABS, compared to your 2009 696 the ABS version has a smaller fuel tank by 0.2 gallons and it is a 796, so I would expect your range to be lower.

You guys are starting to make me think there is something wrong with my bike lol.  I always run over 200 miles on a tank before I fill up, the fuel light starts flickering about 210-215 for me, I think the farthest I've pushed is 220 miles.  I have a 2000 M900 and accelerate spiritedly but typically cruise at 2500-3000 rpm.

Nothing wrong with good mileage, but you obviously have miles and kilometers mixed up [cheeky]

my 696 flickers around 195-200km
with my new exhaust, DP ECU and PC V Optimizers making everything richer, I don't screw with it and don't try to go more than 230km. but i bet I can make 240-250km maybe I'll bring a gas can one day and test it.

I'm sure if I rode more conservative (which is soooo hard with the new sounds) I could get a 250+km easily

Canadian answer..lol

14L plastic tank on an s2r 800,

light comes on after 10 L is consumed (so 4L left), and if that is highway km's, its averaged about 200km

I am getting about 20km/L of fuel... I always pull over and get gas as soon as the light comes on, so I dont know total consumption but it is estimated

if it is city mileage, im lucky to get 200 km out of a full tank. It actually kinda sucks

I run 91 octane fuel as our highest in 93 and contains ethanol, so id rather not use it.

This thread has "kilometerage"!  :D
I mean this thread has legs.

Just did some fine tuning on FCRs, cruising economy should improve a little.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.
