I'm doing the valves and the inside of the heads by the exhaust valves have the cooked bubbled paint (2003M800S).  I'm thinking it may be prudent to use a paint stripper  and get back to bare aluminum in case the burnt paint flakes off and pass into the sump.  Anybody done this?

OK, I went ahead and did it on the vertical.  It was too much work to do with the heads on the bike and I'll finish the job when the time comes to get get the heads out.

If you want to do it with the heads on the bike, you need to protect the seal from the stripper.  I made a circular dam out of a section of a plastic ring, sealing the bottom to the head with RTV and filling the dam with silicone dielectric grease to cover (and protect) the seal.  Plug the oil return hole. Then the stripper was brushed over the burnt paint and over a few hours the mess was scraped away with a bamboo stick.  I used a citrus type paint stripper.    Rinse well.   Remove the dam.  Rinse again.   Admire the clean aluminum.
