I got Boom Tubes coming not sure if a Power Commander is worth it on this bike the consensus seems to be no. Can I lose the Air Box and just put on some K&N filters? Any "How To's" or tips on this process?

You'll need a power commander or a reflashed ecu

It will be very lean otherwise.

Are you saying I need a PC due to the Boom Tubes or if I open up the Air Intake? Can I just open it up as I described or do I need a kit?

You need a PC or a reflash if you modify your intake at all.

I sure hope not.  Shocked

Been my Sport 1000 with BoomTubes on the stock ECU for 7000 miles or so. No issues so far. Well, none because of the exhaust.

If you got them with any kind of baffles at all, your BoomTubes will probably be MORE restrictive than your stock exhaust.
