Hi,
I am a new Ducatisti here. I have a new 2011 Monster 696 that is still under warranty and wanted to see if i could upgrade to a single sided swing arm on it. Would really appreciate if anyone could help provide some info or experience on this topic.

Would a SSS from a 2009 Monster 1100 fit on the 696? I read somewhere that it does. If it does, do I also have to upgrade the rims and tyres?

Any replies would be much appreciated.

The Bearded Duc

Better off selling the 696 and buying an 1100.
2001 M750 - Sold
2006 S2R 800 - She's just darling

Raux

parts swaps are easy. basically the entire rear end of an 1100 or 796. from brake line to wheel.
problem is the speedo and the number of bolts on the rear rotor. I think one person came up with the solution but can't remember where I saw it.

@Raux Thanks! I dont have any information about the speedo and the bolts issue. Didnt come across it before. Can you share a bit more on the issue?

@The Bearded Duc ... 1100s are impractical in our country...too few roads, very narrow and twisty.. many mountains :).... Fuel wise its difficult as well...

Raux

the speedo is based on the reading of the bolts on the rear brake rotor. 6 on the 696, but 4 on the 1100

Raux

where are you? the 796 seems like a good option.

@Raux thank you for the explantion. Will try and find more info. Btw, i am in Kathmandu, Nepal. I did in fact try the 796 out before I settled on the 696. I found the 796 sporty and aggressive. I did like it very much but its a pain in close traffic in Kathmandu where cars and bikes are bumper to bumper within the main city roads which are very narrow. At low revs the 796 is a bit ..unstable...whereas the 696 is a bit more refined and smooth eve at low revs and therefore even in traffic conditions such as ours and it was more suited. The cost difference was not a very big issue for me.

aww too bad you didnt check here first. the 14 tooth front sprocket and powercommander V smooths out the 796. and well all the Ducati in traffic

What Raux said would have helped a lot for you low speed troubles...  but the person that did the SSS swap was xskiervh on this board.

Here is a link to his bike:

@Raux Yeah, missed out on that but still happy with the 696. :)

@thought I went thru his thread. Unfortunately the pics werent viewable. His pics for the Monster Challenge on Ducati Community were awesome. He did point out that he resolved the speedo issue using healtech.
