The fuel level sensor in my 99 M900 is bad, need to get a replacement.  The only one I've been able to find is on eBay, in the Netherlands, for $150.

Previous owner decided to clip the wires directly at the fuel sensor.  When I tested the sensor with my ohm-meter, I was getting readings of about 3k ohms.

Pretty sure you can get a new one from a dealer for less than that.

My idiot light doesn't work either.

I just fill up every 120 miles. I'll keep an eye on your progress and might replace mine if it's worth it.

Pretty sure this is the right one, but confirm before you buy.

My idiot light came on the other day at about 110 miles. I filled up and then it flickered for half hour.
First time for about four years. The first time it came on at 143 miles and my bike stopped running. I don't like to let mine come on because it means I'm gonna run out of gas. I fill up every 100 to 110 miles. I always thought that they didn't really work anyway.

Thanks for the info Speeddog.

So it sounds like it's not worth the $100+ it will cost to get a replacement fuel level sensor based on other people saying it doesn't work well anyway.

Do you guys know of any good websites to get OEM parts?  There are a few miscellaneous parts I need for my M900.

Ducati Omaha - http://www.ducatiomaha.com/

Commonwealth Ducati - http://www.commoto.com/

Those are the two I use most for part lookup/ordering if my local dealer doesn't have the part in stock.

eBay is great too, but you have to be sure the part will fit your bike.

I wouldn't go that far, I'm running one in a '98 M750, works fine.
The one in my '02 S4 still works fine too.

Occasionally they fail.

For the 99 M900, it appears the proper part number for the fuel level sensor is 592.1.0005.2B.  This retails for about $170 + shipping everywhere.

Part number 592.1.005.1B goes for about $104 + shipping.  I wonder if the two are interchangeable...

Bought a fuel level sensor from a 99 750SS.  Checked the ohm's reading and it was the same as my defective sensor:  One direction reads 3000 ohms and another direction reads 2.6k ohms.  When connected to the bike, the fuel sensor light illuminates, but never goes out when I simulate a full tank by orienting the sensor accordingly.

For those who have a functioning fuel level sensor, would you mind getting an ohms reading on the sensor for me?

After checking out a dissection of a fuel level sensor, I'm wondering if I could simply replace the faulty capacity or resistor to get my old sensor working.

I cut that sensor open, and IMO it'd be impossible to do without ruining it.

The sensor takes a while to respond, the electronic parts slow the response so it's not flashing on and off as fuel sloshes around.

I don't put much stock in an ohm reading for a complicated circuit like that.
