Hi y'all

I relocated my horn and the stock wire a bit short...so I extended the wires using some wires i found around the house (fairly the same size) don't know if that's a good idea  [roll].  Also I replace the stock connector with similar ones bought from a hardware store.

Now my horn is not working.  Even I tried without the wire extensions.  [bang].  Fuse is fine also.

I check the button/switch and everything seem to be fine.  What did I do wrong?  The wire for the horn are 14 gauge right?  And it has two wires (one is black and purple, the other is green).  My bike is 2000 M750.

If i'm missing/doing something wrong please can you point out.

Thanks,
Sean.

Do you have a multimeter to check if you have voltage in the wires? (with the horn button activated)
(if you don't, just try with a 12 volt bulb)

I don't know, but how about trying to reverse the wires (+/-)

I don't have a multimeter but this is what i did to figure if it has voltage....

I engaged the button, then took one of the wire and touched it to the frame to see if there are sparks...if there is then it must have voltage....the RESULT...nothing  >:(

I reserved the wires/switched the connectors but nothing... :(

How did you connect the extension wires to the old ones?

welded and also tried to connect it using the wire joint...sorry if I don't use the correct terminology.

You mean solder?

How did you insulate the connections? Tape? Heat shrink?

My guess is one of two things:

a) There's a short somewhere. The juice isn't making it all the way to the horn. Either there's a gap in the insulation somewhere or something's just touching something it's not supposed to.

--or--

b) The original wires were brittle and may have broken inside the insulation, meaning there's no actual circuit being completed. Were the wires kind of stiff?

Just because you don't have sparks doesn't mean you don't have juice there. Just means you don't have A LOT of juice there.

yeah i meant solder and wrap with heat shrink

I did removed my kickstand switch...I cut the wires and removed the thing completely...if that help identify the problem.

The wires were stiff or hard...

My nightmare is that these two wires lump up into the wiring harness so I can't figure out what's wrong.

I will get a multimeter and see if there is voltage, but if there isn't enough, then what's the possible fix?

Multimeter will give you a better idea of what's going on. Doesn't have to be a fancy one.

Does your brake light work?  Check the fuse.  And buy yourself a meter and test light, looking for sparks is not dood.
