people this thread has been killed,
thanks for everyone's input.
Look on the bright side  8).  This thread was always gonna be superfluous given that pretty much all of its subject aspirations have already been met in other pre-existing threads.  Your goal had been acheived before it began  [clap].

If there's ever anything you wanna know, we're all friends here.  Just ask  [thumbsup].

Whereas the smart-arse assertion in that pseudo apology needs no pointing out.

Oops... I pointed it out anyway.  I'm sorry  :-*.

the sad thing is... out of all the other duc forums he's spammed this in... he's gotten the most help here and been the least grateful.  [bang]

ok party poopers, I'm back!
Read 627 times and still no valuable input, great forum here, thanks for all the help guys!
So back to business...
Finally got around to adjusting my valves!
Finished mine a few weeks ago, here's my .02,
I didn't do mine at the exact service interval mileage (it was a little past).
Valves were WAY too tight. definitely needed adjustment (not just a check/inspection)
(going from memory here) but I think all 4 valves (opening clearance) were less than .05/1000 inch.
New shims not needed, wet sanded them down to around 4/1000 inch of clearance.
Closing clearance was ok.
Gas tank is a pain in the a$$, really thinking about some kind of quick disconnect for the hoses so I can just take it off and set it aside.
Feeler gauges a must, micrometer helps, TDC is kind of confusing at first. Used needle nose pliers to pull out the little "clip" that holds the rocker arm in place.
Must remove the battery. Also must remove the little wind cowl that covers the horizontal cylinder.
Found a few youtube videos that offered some general advice.
*Most interesting part of all, the 696 has NO VALVE COVER GASKETS!!! I bet you didn't know that!
It freaked me out at first because I've never heard anyone talk about this!
Took me about 2 days of "tinkering" after work for a few hours to finish everything. First day to get the gas tank and everything else out of the way, second day to wet sand and double/triple check everything.
Maybe its psychological, but the bike feels like it has more power/torque.
Did I miss anything?
Which douchebag wants to say something smart?

How is the detailed how-to video coming along? Post a link to it when you are done, it is hard to find complete info on this.  [beer]

Your tank already has quick disconnects.. You weren't smart enough to find them.

I bet that almost everyone knows there is a huge o-ring on the valve covers that serve as a gasket. And has for some time.
