well.... i drained the oil and removed the filter. then i slid the catch tray more under the bike so if i dropped something it wouldn't end up in the tray. i then removed the clutch side engine cover and pressure plate/discs etc, checked the clutch hub nut, never removed the nut, replaced my oil lines with hypermotard lines to move them both over to the left side and put it all back together. went for a ride and it is all perfect working order and no noises.

but when i drained the tray today i found this in there and dunno where its from! i could have been dropped while doing other things in the garage but I'm still at a loss as to what it is.... any help very much appreciated!
didn't have a rule with me upstairs, but had some coins for rough sizing

It's either the drain plug gasket or the sump screen gasket.

I wouldn't... :-\

tip the bike onto a tire on the left side and pull the screen and install the gasket.

You won't lose any oil.

Oh, goody!
A crush washer thread. I love these things!!

Any dealership will tell you that that needs to be replaced with a new "uncrushed" one or horrible things will happen.
