The exhaust seals that fit between the headers and the motor have a beveled edge. Which way should that edge face? It isn't mentioned in the service manual.

Cheers!

thanks for the reply speeddog... figured it out though. for the record it is a 2004 s4r. still having trouble though. after several attempts there is still a pretty good exhaust leak between the header and the pre-silencer. I have gone through two gaskets and this second time i even tried some of that copper gasket material. the bike was previously wrecked and the pipe that runs beneath the motor took a good hit... which could explain why the header was cracked as well. anyway, maybe the pipes don't fit quite right as a result of that. I'm considering welding those two pipes together. I would still be able to remove that section of exhaust to service the bike without any difficulty.

Still having exhaust issues with my '04 s4r :-\
For the record, my bike was previously wrecked. The pipe that attaches to the header and runs beneath the bike, obviously took a good hit. There is a deep abrasion and it was slightly crushed. Possibly because of that, I cannot get a good seal between that pipe and the header... and I have tried multiple times. I was hoping that seal could be welded, but my friend says no. He says it will burn though the pipe. Any other suggestions for a good seal? JB Weld? An entire tube of copper gasket sealant? Anything?
