Doing the steering bearing install on my always left outside 02 620 monster.  With all of the forum help its gone smooth except for the race thats on on the steering tube attached to the lower tripples.

The post on how to remove the steering nut by hammering on the top tripple clamp has been priceless for sure.

I've grinded two sides of the race thats stuck at the base of the steering tube.  I'm pretty sure I went all the way through on an least one grinding spot, but the whole mess looks corroded together.  Also my steering tube shows some pitting and corrosion.

I wanna take the heat to it (its gonna destroy that rubber dust seal below the race, but its already pretty trashed from grinding anyway).

How do you remove the steering tube from the lower tripple, can I buy a new one?  Take it to a machine shop?  Is it a press fit?

Pictures to follow when I get home.

The tube is a press fit, but I don't know if you can buy it.

Use a chisel and a hammer...a real hammer  ;D

and don't worry about scratching up the washer under the race. It can be pounded flat or replaced.
