It looks like I will be heading out that way for the 4th of july. (7/1-7/5)

any suggestions for things to do/places to see that are not so touristy? (though there will be some super touristy things that are done)
How is the public transport system there since i have no desire to drive in that city.  [bang] [laugh]

I'll be going to a soccer game on the 4th, so i'll watch fireworks from there.

Seriously, when i am 800years old i want to rock like Lemmy! it is a religion that requires lots of determination, drugs, and Marshall stacks.

"LA" covers a pretty huge area.  Do you know where abouts you'll be?
My fast lap is your sighting lap.

+1.
Yah, what most folks think of as "LA" is about 40x40 miles.

For the most part, public transportation sucks.

What kind of 'non touristy' stuff are you interested in?

didn't realize it was quite so big....
well, for reference, I'll be going to the home depot center but i'm not sure where in the city i would be staying. preferably something that is close by, but not in areas I hear mentioned in rap songs.

home depot center is in carson ca, which is about 20 miles south of la. you are closer to torrance or redondo beach than you are la. torrance is about 7 miles west of carson & redondo beach is about 10 miles west of it... no clue about public transit..for me, when im in that area, its allllll about the beach

I've lived in some rough areas. i prefer not to put myself in the situation if at all possible.  ;)

I'll look up hotels towards the beach and plan on cabbing it. [thumbsup]

May want to look at a cheapo rental car.

I've not taken many cabs here in LA, but they always seem to be *really* expensive.

Stay in Downtown Long Beach.... there's Pine Ave ( restaurants, clubs, cigar lounge etc..) , The "Pike" has been revitalizrd.. there's the Queen Mary, the Aquarium, Beachwood BBQ- Killer food and Local Brew ( not to be missed  [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [beer])

Not too far from Carson and you can prolly take the Metro rail to get to the Home Depot Center..

The southbay area (Redondo/ Manhattan/Hermosa, El Segundo area) is also an option... beach towns

Don't forget the Auld Dubliner on Pine, great little spot  [drink]
