Hi everyone!
This is my first Ducati, a 2000 Monster 600. the odo says ~30 000 KM
I wanted to ask here as I have a limited knowledge in these engines so hopefully there's someone that can help:

1. I was thinking of an oil cooling mod, I can get a cooler from a monster 900 and I saw that every engine has the two ports on the right side.

The thing is that if I connect the cooler to the in/out ports on my M600, will it work? I mean, is the oil pump linked to these ports?? or there will be no oil running through the expanded circuit.

2. I replaced the stock spark plug wires with two NGK racing wire (the red ones, angled).
After a 10 mins running, I stopped the engine and when I checked the ignition coils they were both quite hot. It's wasn't just from the engine's heath..
But I've never checked the coils with the stock wires.. so I don't know if this is how they should be or the NGK wires are no good.. help?

3. when revving, it smells like the mix is a bit rich, how can I mend this? both the air cleaner and the exhaust is stock.

Thank you!

1. As I understand it, yep, you could get a cooler from a 900 and fit it. There's a couple other items you'll need as well. The valve cover with mounting bracket and oil diverter. The later sits up inside where the filter mouts and is necessary to have the oil routed to the cooler.

2. I can't help there.

3. At 30K Kms it's quite probable that your jets are worn and would do well with a replacement set.

4. Do you know the age of your cam belts? They are a limited life item. They are supposed to be replaced at two years of age from frist install, or roughly 19K Km - whichever comes first.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Thanks for your help!
I'll try to get the oil diverter, I didn't know about it, but I guess it's hard to reach? is it inside the engine, how does it look like?

now I'm even more concerned with the ignition coils as I checked both the stock and the NGK wires and the both show 5K Ohms..
I left the key on but without the engine running and when I checked the coils, they were hot again... anyone? I even replaced a CDI unit with an identical one and still both coils were getting hot with the engine stopped... I'm confused.

I'll see where can I get a new kit for the carbs. I was thinking to replace the airbox with some K&N filters and then get a proper set to replace the jets. any recommendations?

as for the belts, yes, I've checked and they are fine but I will order some new ones just to make sure. Thanks again!

The diverter is a glorified bit of bent metal that goes in where the oil filter mounts, you just stick it up in that socket (ok it's a little harder) - but you don't need to go inside the case. Adding an oil cooler is pretty basic. Run a search - folks have documented adding coolers to other 6xx monsters on here.

For parts - look left :) Site sponsors are a good place to start. I'd suggest Ca Cycleworks as the place to start, and probably give them a call. I'd expect them to have thoughts on your carbs

For coils - they have this

- if you're looking for a replacement.

Aaaand they sell belts.  ;D
