So My Battery Has Been Disconnected... [No Red Key]
«

For a really long time and my bike is a 2003 M800S with the "immobilizer" feature.
Am I going to need a red key when I go to reassemble?
With no Red Key what are my options if for some reason I need it? New from dealer? Aftermarket?
Just doing some prior planning for my rebuild

I disconnect my battery and put it on a tender every winter. I just reconnect every spring. Never had a problem, always starts right-up, no need for the red key. wt:

You shouldn't need the red key after you reassemble.
If you do at some point end up *needing* the red key, first get a very large, absorbent towel for all the tears.
Then pony up for an FIM U59 ECU.

I've heard discouraging words about that before I thought, is there any draw backs to that? I've also got a power commander is that going to be an issue with this ECU?

PCIII isn't necessary with the FIM, as it's mapping is fully adjustable.
The software/hardware to do that isn't cheap, however, and very few places have it.
When we had the software/hardware at FlightCycles, we loaded a canned map into the FIM on an M800, and it ran quite well.
We'll get the software/hardware at FlightCycles again shortly.

I bought a used M750 and I'm assuming that the Red Key was something lost during the course of the bikes life. Can you please tell me what the "Red Key" is?

All 750's are old enough to not have a red key - the fuel injection with immobiliser didn't show up until the 800.

Yeah, but didn't they come with the pre-immobiliser injection? (the same ecu as the 900ie from '00 and '01 and the injected 750 SS's from a few years earlier)?

Now you've got me wondering.
I'm 99% certain it was the 620/800/1000 models that came with the immobiliser FI, the injected 900s and 750 used the late 90's FI from the SuperSport range. I know for sure that at least the early 900ie's didn't have the red key.
(I could _easily_ be wrong though, I'm much more likely to notice minor model change details on the pre 2000 carbed models since that's what affects me...)

It's a 1998 so apparently from the discussion I shouldn't have a red key. The key apparently is for the immobiliser function? What causes the bike to be immobilized neccesitating the red key to reactive the bike on those that actually have it? Simply a disconnectd battery?

Just to clarify... I have an 02 monster 750 and it does indeed have the 'immobilizer' feature with the red key.

It ends up you are wrong. As far as I know, all Ducatis had the red key after 2002, but I do know for a fact that the '02 750 ie had a red key (former owner).
