Recently bought my first Ducati, a monster s4r. So far Im very happy about it, and Im enjoying it very much.

The problem. Was on a long trip and had to park it outside in the cold (about 0 celsius). So the next day the battery was dead. No problem, disconnected the battery and hooked it onto a charger. When i plugged in the battery and started up the bike i noticed that the odometer did not show the correct mileage (km).  It now shows 11813km, the old mileage was over 12500km. So I drove a longer trip so the odometer went over 12000km again. To check if it would happen again I pulled out the main fuse and put it in again. Once again the odometer reset to 11813. Took a trip around town and tried again. Same thing once more 11813km. The trip-meter also gets set to 230, regardless of what it was before.

Also some times when its cold outside the immobilizer will not recognize the key. I then have to bypass the immobilizer with the code card. When it is bypassed the odometer just shows a line (------). Dont know if this is related or not.

Sorry if my english is bad, I will appreciate all help I can get :)

EDIT: Its a 2005

05 has a red key right?  My 06 does and I can tell you that if that red key is anywhere nearby it will reek havock on your shit.  The only problem I had was with a dead battery and I had to use my red key to start over, then I forgot to remove it from the key chain and it wouldn't start.  Well, ran the key back into the safe and outside I went........success, she started. I have no clue why your odometer is resetting itself. May not help much but that's my experience.

Yes it has a red key. The red key is inside my apartment, nowhere near the bike. However, I have used the red key to start the bike once, just to check if it worked. Could the red key have set the bike in some kind of program mode or something? Im not sure about the milage when i used it, but it was below 12000 km. It might have been at 11813km.

Im not sure if it is related, or what the red key actually does.

in my experience the red key is a hassle and for all of my Ducs it's done some weird stuff.....all three differently.
There is a sequence that has to be followed when resetting after the immobilizer was tripped and I don't remember what it is, at least for my last two ducs.  I'm no mechanic but what you're describing sure sounds to me like the bike needs to be reset somehow.  Look for the online manuals and read them.

That could be the problem, thanks for answering :)
Will reply if I find out what the problem is.

Just have to find a workshop manual.

U mentioned code card.  How does one use a code card?  I am trying to work on immobilizer issue on my 2004 620dm.
620M 2004 Dark i.e.; ~ 57K miles (all me);  Looking to swap out engine now.
Triumph Speed Triple 2006 (now ~ 44K miles bought @ 4K miles on 04/2010)
Honda Grom 2015 ~ 3500miles so far.  Love this lil bike

To bypass the immobilizer:
Have the code card in front of you.
Turn the ignition on.
Open the throttle wide open and hold for 8 seconds
After 8 seconds the check engine light will turn off, let go of the throttle at once.
The check engine light will now start flashing. Count the flashes, when the light has flashed the same number as the first digit on the code card, open the throttle for two seconds and let go. The check engine light will turn on and stay on for four seconds. It goes off for a couple of seconds and then starts blinking again. Repeat the process for the remaining digits.

When the last digit is registered, the check engine light will flash a couple of times and then turn off. The immobilizer is now bypassed and you can start the bike.

You have to repeat the process every time you turn the ignition on.

Took the bike to the shop today. Did not find anything wrong with it. They told me the memory in the odometer must be broken or something and ordered me a new one.

So no quick fix, but Il feel more comfortable with a working odometer again :)
