Will my new tank work?

So I got in an accident and am rebuilding the beauty.

Now with a budget like mine I had to buy used so I purchased a tank from ebay that has ended up being different on the inside.

There are two locations for clipping in circular objects inside the tank. One on the base, closer to the tube exits and one up near the fill hole.
My original tank is from my 2001 m900 and has only one location for the clips. Down near the tube exits.

My question is: Is there some way to utilize this new tank setup with the guts from my old tank? ???????????????  ???

The upper clip is for the fuel filter. It can be used if you have enough length of your fuel hoses, but doesn't have to be used. You can buy submersible fuel line from NAPA.

The more important thing is does the lower clip for the pump have the same number of 'bands'.

Some have two narrower bands and some have one wide one. The rubber isolators on the pump have grooves to match.

It can be tough to get the pump to seat with differing numbers of grooves in the rubber, but it will work if you're persistent.

The lower clip has only one "band".
But the problem is with this new style tank the bottom panel of the tank has an extra recess that deminishes the clearance inside the tank and thus making it damn near impossible to clip the older style fuel pump in.
Also the fuel line is not long enough to put the filter in the upper clip of the newer style tank. But the overall length of the line should reach the fill cap.

I have not finished trying so i cant say that it all fits. My arm is too large to really get in there and man-handle the pump into the clip.

Thank you again for your input.

I have a 2000 M900ie tank, it's a bit second hand, dent and such..

Willing to trade for your tank (sounds like you have '02-'05 'ish steel tank)

Use a little lube on the rubber isolator for the pump.

It will work.

Speeddog-
Is your tank plastic?
Im a pretty big fan of the metal tanks but regardless I dont have time to finalize that transaction before I need to drive her back to Cali from NY.
Maybe in a few weeks?

Ducpainter-
I'll give it another try today.

A 2K tank is steel.

I just did what you're trying.

It isn't that bad. ;)

greased up the rubber around the pump and took some wiggling but I got it in.

Submersible fuel line is NOT easy to get. Some of it was recalled from the manufacturer so be careful what you buy and be prepared to spend money.
I shelled out $30/ft for it.

Ran all the way to CA with no problems (per say, see my other thread on current issues that may be related to this).
