Fast-idle lever causes racing

Not sure what the deal is. When ambient temperature requires, I set the fast idle lever before starting. The bike fires up and starts to idle around 2,000k. After about a minute of idling, the engine takes off rapidly increasing RPM's. It doesn't just go up a few K and stay there, it literally keeps going upwards.  What could cause this?  As soon as I move the fast-idle down it comes back into line and will hold a steady idle as it warms up.  This is on my '98 ST2.

what you are doing to compensate is the correct way to use the fast idle  [thumbsup]

4K is full fast idle on the cold start lever

as stated you are correct in what you are doing

what I do on a cold start is full lever at start then immediately back down to 2K as soon as it fires up


when you are riding put the lever to full and let go of the throttle you will see it level off at 4K ....great cruise control

Thanks for the feedback.  I guess my concern was that my '07 M695 doesn't behave this way. I open the lever all the way and after a few minutes, it creeps slowly up to 3,000k and I dial it back accordingly.  The ST just takes off seemingly out of control before it's run more than a minute -and this is with the lever half open. It doesn't seem healthy to rev that high when it's still cold.  I'll have to check and see what RPM it does go up to -seems higher than 4k.
