Shaft moves sideways? Hmmm.....

It's called the secondary gear shaft or layshaft, I think... (front sprocket 'home')

I moved the sprocket a little bit (normal), but I also put my finger on this shaft and it moved sideways (axial?).
I guess 3-4-5 tenths of a mm. The workshop manual says 0.05-0.15 for gear shafts.
Does that apply for this shaft as well?

I don't have specs at hand, but IIRC should be something more like 0.1mm

Between 0.05 and 0.20 'optimal average 0.15' says the manual.
When/if shimmed the shafts should be closer to 0.05.

I'll try to get it measured properly.

I had hoped to avoid splitting cases - is splitting cases to shim from .3/.4/.5 overkill/anal?
Bonus of splitting is that everything else can be checked/refreshed, but I'd be happy to delay the cost.
