Simple question, will the Penske 8983 with remote reservoir bolt onto a 2002 Ducati S4?  Before I ask my shop to do the work I want to make sure it will work.....

Thanks forum for the help.

Unfortunately not a simple answer.  The Penske's are all custom built.  If you are buying one used from a significantly different bike (non-DSS Monster), then you need to do some measuring, and it probably wants new internals to be what you are looking for.

If you are buying it new, I think the answer is that Penske builds it to fit.

I have one on my S2R that I'm looking to port over to the S4 i Bought  Guess I might as well sell it and use the money to get the Saches rebuilt or find an Ohlins online.

If that's your case, I'd talk to your shop about the valving and spring rate.  Depending on how they set it up, it might be okay or at least require minimal set up.  I think I remember that the regular DSS (non-hoopy) has the same length shock as the SSS, so it shouldn't be too much.  Do you still have the spec sheet/manual that came with the shock?  that will give you some hard info when you talk to your favorite suspension shop.

I also seem to recall He Man talking about $150 to set up a Penske for a different bike and he was trying to fit one from some entirely different japanese bike.

Edit: Google took me to TOB prior to schism, and an Ohlins DU046 works for both S2R and DSS bikes. That leads me to believe that all ST-framed Monsters use so nearly the same suspension as makes no difference.  The "big" fitment problem is for piggyback reservoirs as they interfere with the oil catch can for the PCV.

All 'ST' frame bikes ('01S4-all '02 and later, including S*R variants) use the same length shock.
All of the 'ST' frame bikes were fitted with the *same* OEM shock, except S4 and S4R.

A remote reservoir Penske will transfer from an S2R800 to an S4, only potential issue is if the reservoir hose is of appropriate length to allow fitment.
Very likely it is.

You may want to go up a step on spring rate, as the S4 is a bit heavier.
