Please help me determine what kind of clutch pack this is, and it's useability?

Seemed like an excellent deal, espec if the clutch basket and plates were useable. I'm wondering what bike this is from...SF1098 maybe? a magnet does not stick to the sintered plates nor the basket. First question: What kind of clutch pack is this? next question: Judging from the pics, is it in useable condition, and should I grind out the circled area on the basket where "gouges" are protruding slightly inward? Last question: Will it work in my 96' 900ss motor?

*edit: I also have a Nichols clutch basket in good condition, but I thought using the OEM aluminum basket with the plates that came with it would be a better idea...in that they had already "mated" to each other...if that makes sense.

It's a clutch basket and plates from a dry clutch Ducati.  I hate to sound vague, but they're all the same, as far as I know, after Ducati switched to aluminum basket/aluminum plates....and that was around year model 2000 or so.  The aluminum basket with the steel ring makes a lot less noise than the older steel basket.

The wear exhibited on the "fingers" of the basket are present on all baskets with more than a few miles on them.  The clutches beat back and forth a bit due to engine speed surging and that motion beats the grooves into the basket and tends to mushroom the edges of the drive lugs on the friction plates a bit.

I have no doubt that your basket and clutches would work without modification.  You can take the protrusions you mentioned off with a file or light sandpaper if you want to be meticulous about your installation, but it's unnecessary.

If you want to mix and match with your Nichols basket that'll be OK, too, as the mating you described is inconsequential.  You can dress the mushroomed edges of the clutch plates if it is excessive.
