2004 Monster 800 i.e. Warranty Replaced Speedometer/Tachometer

Hello,
I purchased a used 2004 Monster 800 i.e. a few years back and at the time of purchase the original owner advised me that he had the complete speedometer/tachometer assembly (instrument panel) replaced under warranty due to excessive vibration in the needles. My question is for some reason I'm not sure why the dealer did this but the odometer was never set to the correct mileage for the bike. They left it at 0 kms when it picked it up after the warranty work was completed??
It was nice that the previous owner advised me of this! I need to add 9,000 km to whatever my odometer says now and I'm not sure if that will interfere with the computer advising me when maintenance is required mind you it's easy to remember every 10,000 kms or cause any other issues (does the bike's computer work independently to the odometer or is it all integrated). The maintenance light never came on for me at the 10,000 kms (not sure that's because the service was already completed for the 10,000 kms). I have my upcoming 20,000 kms scheduled maintenance coming up and if possible I'd like to ask them if they can adjust my odometer to read the proper kms I've ridden on the bike and not have to add 9,000 all the time. I'm a bit puzzled as to why the dealer would let the bike out of the shop with an incorrect odometer reading. I guess I should ask first if it's feasible for the dealer to adjust the odometer. Thank you in advance.

Adjusting the mileage on a motor vehicle in the US is considered odometer tampering regardless of the direction you go. I don't know where you're located, but I suspect it's the same.
The mileage should be recorded on the repair order. When you transfer the vehicle here there is a question on the title about mileage displayed on the odometer and whether it's the true mileage. Just be truthful, and you can show any prospective buyer the repair order and the true mileage can be determined.

About the 10' km maintenance symbol - a theory - maybe you got a newer version instrument, programmed with 12' km intervals... It's not possible to delete the symbol before 12', so it sounds logical.

there isn't any way to put the km into a replacement speedo. i'm told of someone locally who can, but certainly not in any official capacity.
we could do it with bmw around 2007 onward from memory. via the gt1 tool of course, so it would read the old dash and program the new without any human input.

You could put it on a stand and let it run in high gear for a few days............
Weeks?
