attempted to cold start the bike just now,
rode it ok on Friday morning. Been outside covered

Tried a cold start with choke fully engaged.
after first few attempts, bike sounded as if it would turn over,
But after continued attempts, bike doesn't
even try anymore. Just the electrical sound of the
Engine start switch.

Anyone suggest anything? Have experienced same issue??

Do the lights and instruments work well?  No repeating relay clicking sounds?  I am currently changing the starter cables on my S4Rs.  Some kind of corrosion - I think it was on the starter terminal connection - kept the starter from getting enough juice.  The rubber protection cover can scoop up water and help corrosion along in that area.  After changing the positive side cables the bike started again and now I am changing the negative side.

.. or the battery is just weak.

Charge the battery and have it load tested.  Then we can go from there.

Follow  scaramanga/Howies advice.

Also - just as some info. You bike does not have a choke, it's injected. That lever you're calling a choke is just a throttle advance/cold idle lever. it doesn't change things like the choke on a carb - just pulls the thottle cam a bit to help keep elevated RPMs during start up and early (cold) idle periods. If you look at the throttle cam while someone else operates the lever, you'll see what's going on.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Removed the battery and charged it. Battery when hooked up the charger showed dead. Battery now fully charged.
I will install and try again tonight.

quick note: since the battery is located under the gas tank, is it common for gas to leak whilst the tank is upside down when trying to remove the battery? Should the tank never be completely upside down? I noticed gas leaking (ever so slightly with the tank in that position).

Thank you everyone kindly. I appreciate all the quick feedback  [bow_down]

I will update the progress as it comes.

thanks again.

Great news everyone. Charged the battery and installed last night. My baby started right up and sounded amazing!
I'm stoked.

Thank you all again for all you input and advice. Sometimes its the simplest solutions that complete the task.

Cheers to all.

It is normal for the tank to leak if you lay it all the way back.

If it was a steel tank the hinge would now be leaking.

You really should only raise it and prop it up to service anything underneath.

cheers

5 minutes removing the battery saves a lot of stress if the charging process goes pear shaped.

Generally I try to charge the battery in a isolated area if possible, away from anything that attracts flames & smoke.
