The Grand Master of my dojang is a 10 time Korean National champion or something like that so I won't be making any attempts at punching him in the head or kicking him in the nether regions.

Sparring with those type of guys is exactly what teaches you to be better.  I always learn new things when sparring with pro fighters or coaches (beyond how much I suck, I mean).

After class last night I was talking to one of the soon-to-be blackbelts and she said that she sparred the G.M. once, but that he only ever spars regularly with the upper black belts (whew!).  He was talking to the rest of the class and seemingly not paying attention to her and yet she couldn't land a scoreable hit.  He knew everything she was going to throw at him before it got near him.

I did my first non-contact sparring last night and it was so much fun that I can't wait to try again.  It's loads of work though!  I imagine that wearing all that sparring gear makes it only more so.

Anybody have any recommendations on good TKD books?  TIA

haha. dam GM being good.

there are a few stories of people thinking they are hot shit and when called upon to be a dummy or when showing arrogance in class (somethign that was a pet peeve of my GM) trying to take a shot at him. it never ended well for that person.

the instructors all knew when we were on his bad side because we were asked to have special training with him and/or were the self defense dummy during class.

that put the martial in martial arts. haha

i'm glad you are enjoying it. i want to see pics from the belt tests.
