Hi everybody!

So, I'm fairly new to bikes and engines and mufflers, especially, but I am quite curious and tend to do things on my own a lot.

This time around, I will install my own Termis. I'm not scared as I know my way around wrenches, screwdrivers, bolts, cables, etc., but the lack of a manual and some specific information is killing me and holding me back me from starting the install.

First issue: The air filter.

The filter which came with the Termi kit seems to be dry (to my eye at least). I've read some people say these come pre-oiled (I cannot tell whether it is the case of mine or not), some say their Duc dealers indicated they run dry, some have opened up their airboxes to find they were actually dry and almost got an heart attack, others have oiled them.

Again, my kit came without instructions so I'm at a total loss here.

Second issue: The mufflers connection.

This is probably what worries me the most. The connection from the mufflers to the Y-pipe don't look round-shaped ???
I would guess this is not right and that they should indeed be round... am I correct? Would there be problems if I don't round them before installation? Did this happen to anyone else? Also, can I give them the correct shape myself? How?

One looks worse than the other:

Thank you!

Howie

First issue I'm not sure about.  Most gauze filters get oiled, but not all.  Contact Ducati North America and see what they say.

Second issue, they are bent.  Bought new?  Contact the vendor.

I suppose I will oil the filter just in case... it seem to look like the K&N one.

I am in Argentina, so contacting DNA would serve no purpose  ;D (sorry, should have mentioned that before, I know...)

The cans are new, came with the whole kit, overseas from europe. I shall try to have my local muffler shop give them that original cilindrical shape again  :'(

Thank you for the input!

Howie

Use this form and contact Ducati about the filter:

Get back to us with the answer.

A good muffler shop should get them round enough.

Oil the filter with gauze type filter oil, asked my dealer the same question and they add oil when they install the filters.

I recently purchased a brand new, full Termignoni system for my 1100S. All the pipes where out of round along with burrs and a few unground welds on the spring mounts, also there was a change in mounting design that used less hardware, the instructions did not explain the change, I saw the hardware change in one of the pictures in the instruction booklet. a little bit pissed about the quality considering the expensive price.

Contacted Ducati through the form, howie. Will see how that goes.

I will in the meantime do as many suggestes, and oil the filter. I'll try to get my hands on an K&N kit for this.

danaid, sorry to hear about your pipes being all wrong as well!! I had the exact same impression, about price-quality :-[ You are lucky to get instructions though! I did not, and read from many others who did neither get them. This is what makes me think and wonder why I didn't go with a pair of Akras or Arrows...

K&N kit will work fine, just make sure what ever you buy work for gauze type filters. I found a big spray can of belray filter oil at cycle gear for $8, works great.

My exhaust turned out beautiful in the end, I should have learned to test fit the parts first from watching all those car restoration shows on tv  :D.  Lesson learned!

Check them out,

[clap] The full system sure does look great!!

So you didn't have to fool around with the pipes shape after all? I bet it sounds and runs like a different bike!

Most of the pipes were oval shaped, So I just pounded them back to round with a mallet, and did a little de-buring and smoothing with my dremel tool. ceramic coated everything to one color. I mail ordered my exhausts from far away like you, so I just fixed it myself.
