S2R1000 rear shock change: S4R or 999 Showa?

I know that either shock will fit, but which one is better?   Do they both have full 3 way adjustability?   Also, does the S4R bolt in without needing to cut off the rear coil bracket?   The 999 shock, I think, requires the rear coil bracket to be cut off.   I see in pics that the reservoir is different between both.   Any body have pics of the install of either shock?   Some of the threads have the pics with non-working links.

I think the reverse is true.
The S4R shock resevoir lies horizontally, requiring the coil bracket to be moved.
The xx9 series shock resevoir sits vertically parallel to the spring. Does it clear the rise in the swingarm?

I have a 999 in mine, i had to cut the coil bracket.

Ok, so what's the performance difference?   He-Man, I think you had to change the spring.  If there isn't much difference, I would tend towards the s4r shock being bolt in without a spring change or frame mod.  Although, the frame mod is ok since I would probably detab the frame in the future prior to powdercoating.

no idea. i did the 999 because it was readily avilable. its a ton smoother then the sachs S2R one.

Though the 749 also came with a sachs so u have to watch out. The showa one is the 3 way adjustable the sachs isnt.

My S2R1K has an Ohlins S4R shock. Funny, Ohlins didn't list a shock for the S2R. But obviously the S4R works fine. [thumbsup]

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

Thanks for all the input.  I have an S4r Showa shock on it's way.

FYI, you will def. have to cut the bracket to get the s4r shick to fit.

No problem.  From the pics of the shock itself, I gather that the reservoir points to the left.  I can cut the rest of the tabs I dont need too.

Make sure to get the 749S, it is the same as 999 Showa.

anyone have any threads on a 749S or 999 shock install for an '07 S2R1000?

Wow, old thread.  Anyway to update, I did get the S4R Showa unit and cut the coil bracket as needed.  I relocated the rear coil and regulator (removed the oil accumulator tank).   The shock is much better planted and smoother than the Sachs, plus I like the adjustability to dial it in.   I'm still dialing in the forks now to match the rear.  I'm not sure if the 749s/999 show is the same or better as that question was never answered.   I doubt if anyone went thru the trouble of buying both shocks just to compare them.  Anyway, I'm happy with what I have now.

Its a pretty straight install if you search around there are some threads maybe a tutorial on it. Cut the bracket, relocate coil install the 749/999 shock with longer spring. Everyone recommends an Ohlins 1091 spring but its too short for the job imo you will either need a spacer or buy a different spring like a 1092, which is a tad bit longer than the 1091. The preload on mine is about to its max. I remember seeing a website that sold Hypercoil & Ebach springs in one of these threads but couldn't find it again.
