I have an 01 Monster S4 with a pretty serious constant drain of around 1.2 mA and I can not get to the bottom of what is causing it??  Here is what I have done to try to locate the problem:  All checks were done with hot wire connected to battery and ground disconnected and touching off on volt meter.
   - Started with the fuse box right beside the battery box on the throttle side.  One by one removed the fuses from the bottom up and checked. The only one that stopped the parasitic drain was the 30A fuse at the top of the box.  Re-installed moved on
   - Disconnected the starter ( which made no change ), then disconnected the sylenoid between the starter and the battery (still no change)
   - Lastly I removed the seat and disconnected what I beleive is the rectifier.  This also did not change the draw.
In summary the only thing that made it stop was the 30A main fuse on the throttle side in the fuse box.  Not sure what all runs off this fuse or where to get started on it and I would appreciate any help from you guys I can get.
Also after sitting for maybe a week it has a really hard time firing but cranks really good.  My battery is new and I have left it disconnected between rides because of my drain issue.  Battery holds charge real well and cranks good bike just takes several trys to get it to fire.  Thought maybe spark plugs so I changed them with the RA59GC Champions and this made no change.  Is it just the gas in the fuel lines going bad in a weeks time??  Sorry for the novel and I appreciate any help I can get!!!!!!!

Ducati, AFAIK, does not have a spec for parasitic drain, but 1.2 milliamps is really low.  Might be the immobilizer.  Most modern cars run around 6 milliamps.  Fuel wont go bad in a week.  TPS, CO etc. set properly?  Using the fast idle lever?

i have a 02 s4 with same isues

low drain similar to yours which i believe is the immobiliser

I keep mine on a battery tender

starting issues i have found are when its cold air temp and cold bike

on a warmer day and cold bike the bike starts easy

my 1 theory is oil is too thick in cold weather

another is in cold weather the battery isnt providing the same level of CCA

another is the older reg/rect isnt that great and one of the newer style would improve
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

Thanks for the info guys.  The drain issue has me boggled.  Over the summer last year I noticed if it sat for a week the battery would drain enough to not get the bike started.  Cycling the battery that much wasted it by the end of the summer, but even with this new one it will run it down in a few days if I leave it connected.
So the Immobiliser......i thought it the most likely cause as well, but when the fuse is disconnected for it the bike still has the draw???  As far as the TPS and CO, maybe I should take it to the dealer and get them checked out.  IDK, I am at a loss here.
What is the newer style Rect/reg?  I am not familiar.  Is this a likely possibility for the hard starts??  Could it be something inside the sylenoid??  Thanks again for your time and help!
