Hi all,

Have a stock M600 carbed, from 2000.
After replacing the pickups with P8s and having the bike running again, I noticed backfiring when decelerating..  ???

I got the bike for less than a year and I haven't changed too much - I used it as the previous owner sold it. (I did replaced air cleaner, fuel filter, plugs, and oil)

Now I got the Ignitech unit and in one week I'll finally get to my bike -but this troubles me because I'm afraid I'll make it worse by installing the Ignitech..  :-\
Where should I look to identify the cause of backfiring? Carbs (I will check the mix) spark plugs? what else?

Thanks and any suggestion welcome!  [thumbsup]

Popping on deceleration, many times is tied to a leak in the exhaust system. Like the join from the header to the slip-ons. Since they are nice and easy to deal with - loosen the connections and mounts work the cans to ensure that they are as well seated as possible.

Other stuff can cause that popping as well - but start simple first.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Or fuel/air setting is too rich/lean.  You want the part of the plug that sparks to have a light brown color; ideally.
Life is never ours to keep, we borrow it and then we have to give it back.

thanks guys, the exhaust is fine, I've checked it.. Not sure about the mix - any ways to find out (apart from checking the plugs and the exhaust) and set it properly?

I have re-set the mix, it was only 2 turns, I made it 3 and is very promising now - only sometimes would 'hesitate' when revving from idle..

cheers
