High idle after handlebar install?..and no, it's not the first thing you'd think

'05 M1000s...   So here's the deal.

I've had cycle cat clip ons and a speedymoto top triple for a while now, but I haven't done a track day in years, and I was looking to return to a little more upright riding position.  I didn't have the stock bars, so I just bought a set of similar looking bars at a local shop.  I dug out the stock triple, and reinstalled.  The speedymoto was flat, whereas the stock one is slightly offset between the steering head and the forks, so I raised the front end back up the couple millimeters I'd lowered it way back when.

I installed the new bars, and checked it stop to stop, and the throttle cables were TIGHT.  The regular one, and the high idle lever were both being opened significantly when I worked the bars.  I don't really remember having to shorten or re-route the cables when I put on the clip ons, but it is what it is.  The new bars sit about two inches higher than the clip ons, so I needed to gain some ground.  I re-routed the cables, and it now appears to have sufficient room to turn the bars stop to stop without effecting the throttle openers (I think that's what they're called) on the side of the bike.

BUT...   Even with the extra slack in the cables, and even with the throttle openers appearing all the way closed on start up, my bike is running a really high idle.  Then when I work the bars stop to stop with it running, it still revs up, even though there is no movement on the throttle openers....

I'm sort of stumped here.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  Also, sorry for the semi long post.

Just kinda thinking aloud, are all the cables sat in the adjusters properly ? Does the throttle move freely and snap back when released ?

You know what, good job thinking out loud, because I think you helped me pinpoint the problem.  I decided to disconnect the lines and see if I had the same issue with the lines totally free...  I started with the twist grip, since it was more accessible than the high idle lever.

Presto.  It was running fine...   It then occurred to me that perhaps it was finally time to change out the twist grip housing.  It had gotten hit with a rock on a trip a few years back and it cracked the plastic cover that has the channel cut into it.  Since then, it's been held together with a zip-tie to keep the cable riding in the channel, *just until* I got around to replacing it...  Apparently that time has come, although my local dealer is closed today, and I seem to remember that the reason it is held together with a zip tie is because when I heard the price they quoted me, I said screw that, I'll leave it zip tied.

Thanks OzzyRob!
