Riding using Red key?

I lost my only Black key and am waiting for the new ones to come in.  Heard a rumor that it's not a good idea to ride using the red key bc it might mess with the whatever.  Sounds bogus to me but if it's true I'd rather not risk it.

other than the risk of losing it, any reason why I shouldn't ride using the red key temporarily?

You can ride with the red key, but if you loose it you are screwed.
