 [coffee]

I'm going to my first track day pretty soon, and I also would like a quieter clutch for certain other reasons.

I'm guessin it's BS...I don't fathom any reason they would be quieter.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

than standard clutches...I drank way too much coffee today, hence the large volume of stoopid posts.

I don't think so.  If you're talking bona fide dry slipper and not APTC, there would still be the dry clutch plate rattle and that's 90% of the noise.

#1 reason I want a slipper is a recurring nightmare I have of my engine stalling or seizing up on me while on the freeway. Kind of a dumb reason to spend that kind of $$, so I'm looking for other benefits as I pretty much only ride on the street.

I have an STM 48-tooth bought second-hand and rather well used as it turned out so there is pretty much play between outer hub and plates. It works beautifull, both regular clutch function and slipper function. But, it's the noisiest clutch I've ever Heard  .... so in my World, the answer is NO.
technically, there's no reason why it should be quiter. I imagine an alu clutch could be quiter than a steel one, though; less Church bell potential ...

Remember, if he gearbox seizes up on you, the slipper clutch won't help  ;D

Well, I am some guy on the Internet, and I say that slipper clutches are for people who can't ride worth a sh!t! You down shift, you use the throttle to sinc the revs.
Ride a shafty for a few years and you will learn how!

edit: damn smell chucker!

Well, each to his own ways.
Slipper clutch is pretty old hat in these days of electronic rider aids, but it sure is convenient. And noisy.

Stock clutch is bad. 48T when the basket isnt worn the make the beast with two backs out, is pretty quiet, but that wont last long.
the slippers ive used, ducabike and stock 749R, are the loudest make the beast with two backsing things in the world. Take off hard from standstill and it moans enough to make ur teeth fall out.

my APTC wet clutch (1100single spark) is still loud for a clutch. I though these things were suppose to be quiet. it just sounds like dry clutch muffled in oil!!!! though, theres not much difference in the two so that should be expected.

Want quiet? Put nichols basket and barnett clutch in there. Wow! I put that setup on a guy's 996SPS and HE couldn't believe it was the same open clutch design.
