Short Ground Wire

There's a short, 3" ground wire that runs from a point on the back of the motor to the back of one of the rearset bolts.... What is that wire for?

It's to complete the ground path back to the battery.

Your bike originally had a ground wire from battery negative terminal to the tray/airbox bolt directly under the left side of the battery.

Specifically, that wire removes the assumption that the frame being attached to the engine itself formed an electrical connection. This grounding strap helps formalize and ensure the connection from the engine's metal itself to the metal of the frame.

...and it should be mentioned that bikes with Kokusan ignition rely on a good ground to protect the ignitor boxes.

My bike still has that ground wire.

OH!! kokusans now have an alternate source. Electrosport started selling them, so we keep those on the shelf...
