Author Topic: kick stand switch, neutral sensor  (Read 1216 times)

If the kick stand switch is not connected to the loom, nor the neutral sensor would this prevent power going to ECU?
I don't have a kick stand switch at the moment and have not connected the neutral sensor. I am in the process of rebuilding a 2004 1000DS SS and am just trying to see if I can get the fuel pump to prime and ECU to function.

Any electrical gurus out there?

There are a group of tech-saavy Ducatisti here who will gladly help you out.  You can make it easier for them (and ensure that you get assistance) by doing the following.

- ONLY post in Tech.  Please do not ask the same question in five different forums on the board.

- Use a descriptive title, i.e.: "99 m900 backfiring".  Don't just title your thread "Help me!"

- Include the year, engine size, & mileage of your bike and any accessories/mods that may be suspect.

- Mention if your bike is in warranty.

- Give some indication of your mechanical knowledge and situation.  Are you trying to rebuild an engine yourself, but can't brew coffee?  Or are you trying to figure out if your dealer is correct in their assessment?  Or are you a long-time wrench who just needs some specific advice?


I just read through the tech posting tips. I guess that I should have before I posted the above but anyhow...

My bike is a 2004 1000DS from a SS that I have fitted to a 999 frame. The rest of the chassis consists of a swing-arm from S2R.

The wiring harness that I have is not the same one that the was fitted to the SS but it is a 2004 SS harness.
I'm no expert mechanic (I learn something everyday when I watch a good one), but I'm not exactly retarded either.
This is my first project of this kind although I did a lot of work on a 1995 916 that I ended up selling to keep from being stranded again in the middle of B.F.E.

Not quite sure what you are asking, but the bike will not start and run unless the sidestand switch or clutch switch (clutch disengaged) or neutral light is on.  If you bypass the sidestand switch you should be good.

They both render the bike inoperable. Does the kill switch cut power to the ecu?

I don't know how the harness was designed.

You've added a variable with the SS harness.

Since I don't know what you did for, to, or with the wiring harness instructions are difficult.  Anyway, here goes.  Somewhere near the sidestand you should find a three wire weatherproof connector with two wires.  Make a jumper wire to connect the two wires.  Now the computer will think the sidestand is up.
