Surging problem on a S2R1K

I have a 08 S2R1K with full Arrow exhaust and Fatduc manipulator.  It's been riding pretty good for the last 8 months until today.   While sitting at the light, the bike started idling up and down from 1K to 2K rpm continuously.  The temp was reading 209 and it was about 90 degrees today.  Anyone experience anything like this?

Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

Is 90 degrees unusually hot for you?  When i started riding my S2K this spring had no surging until temps here in New Englad got about 65 degress or so.

Playing with the FatDuc i found that the surging is much worse when the weather is warm, and almost didn;t need the FatDuc when it was cold.

Out of curiosity, where are you running your FD?  I just put Arrows on about 200 miles ago - stock i was at about 1:00, now at almost 3:00.

Not sure i can help much, but maybe try richening up a bit.

mine does it from time to time. id usually kill it, and restart the ecu (key) and it goes away. or i just ride it in 1st gear at redline for a bit and it goes away.

Curious... do you know why it does this?

dont quote me, but i remember reading the cause of the surging issue being singled out on bikes (all makes) that run on 1 o2 sensor. if you have 1 sensor and both cylinders are trying to reach a certain fueling, one may spit more gas into one cylinder, and the o2 sensor says too rich. so the other cylinder leans out, then it says too lean, and it causes the surging up and down.

by resetting killing power to the ecu, once you turn the key back on, it supposely ( i dont knw if this is true at all), spends 10 seconds in a special mode for starting (extra fuel). This is supposely only the case on S2R1ks because it has no fast idle lever.

if you run the bike past a certain RPM or throttle position, the bike goes to a default map and the o2 sensor data is ignored, so once you come back down from that map, the bike goes back to reading the o2 sensor data.

For the most part, the single o2 sensor does the job fairly well when it isnt surging. If you compare a bike with and without o2 sesnor connected, youll notice a BIG plus in power delivery & snappyness with the O2 sensor in, but it is not smooth. Without it, its like butter.

Not sure if it is related to your problem, but is it surging both in gear an in neutral? On my bike (after the FatDuc install) my bike will occationally idle very high when rolling to a stop in gear. Dropping into neutral gets the idle back down to 1.2K where it should be. This only happens to me about once a week and almost always within 2 minutes of starting out. Putting the bike into neutral always fixes the high idle for me.

My '06 s2r1k will do that sometimes, but only after it's just been started.  I'll turn the key off, wait a few seconds then restart it.  This always fixes the issue.  (I'm not running with an O2 sensor... DP ECU)

I wanted to bump this as my 06 S2R with full Termi and open airbox has developed a surge at idle going from around 1100 RPM to 12 or 1300, it has also started backfiring a lot when I roll off the throttle. It hasn't had this issue before, and I'm wondering what could have changed? I have been riding anywhere from sea level to 7,000 feet and the problem is pretty consistent..Is it possible that it might be a very dirty air filter?
Thanks,
Cameron

p.s. it only does it when warm and idling

I had the same problem with mine. It happened  stock+ fatduc. I then upgraded to  full arrow + race ecu , the bike ran/runs great but occasionally had the idle oscillation. Like HE Man i would turn it off and restart making it idle ok.
It completely went away after a throttle body sync and tps reset. Don't know why but it went away.

Not sure which ecu I have..it's been replaced, or I think it has since there was some sort of wiring harness or whatever that came with the box (with baffles) the PO supplied..

Holy thread back from the dead.

I have 6,000 miles on a Fat DUc with Arrows.  No issues at all.  But, the other day my idle surged like described.  Pulled over and shut off, went away on restart.

Hope this isn't the start of some new issue.
