Ive googled and searched on here, and couldnt find one. Ive decided to get racetech springs (cheaper than sbk swap) and I cant find a tutorial for the spring swap. Anyone have one?

Thanks

Which 796 do you have?

AFAIK, they've all got the right fork with a 'cartridge' with a separate spring, but the left fork has no cartridge, only a spring and pushrod trapped inside the left fork leg.

It isn't obvious how to reversibly remove that spring.

hahah ok ok I was too lazy to type out "2012" but seriously, anyone have a walkthrough for this? Fork springs is something I haven't had the opportunity to tackle until now.

email me at brad at bikeboy dot org and i'll email you back part of the manual.  it looks obvious from the pics, but I've never had one in bits, so that's easy to say.

Let me know if you still need help.  I just swap internals on my '10 M1100.  They are both 43mm Showas.  You have a progressive spring as well and want to transfer to Racetech linear rate springs I assume.  You don't need the special tools, I can help you break them apart without any in your garage.  Also, if you haven't already bought the springs, get the racetech fork oil since you are using their math.  Fork oil is highly unregulated and weights as well as viscosities are NOT uniform across brands.  Their recommended weights in only for THEIR fork oil.  A lot of brand vary greatly so be careful of using any other brand.  The amount will also pertain to their oil.  You should be about 439-440mm per fork.  Variations won't be catastrophic, but outcomes will vary and you just need to play with it/dial it in.

A 796 has a Marzocchi fork and it's also not the same as the set on an EVO. Specific to 796. Early 696's still had Showa. The 796 Marzocchi isn't all that bad as delivered unless the OP weights a LOT more than I do.  ;D Using something other than Shell but of the same viscosity might be a good move though as they could stand to run smoother and premium oils like Red Line and Spectro have ingredients which help this a good bit from experience...
