Was on a great ride yesterday (450 miles through Southern CA and AZ) and noticed at some point the maintenance notice came up. I am under the impression that this notice comes up for service (I'm thinking valve checks) every 6,000 miles. I had the valves checked and maintenance notice reset  at 16,824 and the notice hit yesterday sometime between 18,732 and 19,000 miles, current miles are 19,187. My belts are due to be changed at ~21,000 miles (Last done at around 9,500) and I was going to have a full service done at that time, but ignoring a maintenance notice for 2k miles seems like a bad idea. Anyone have some input?

Thanks for the help.

the message is set to come on before the actual service, something around 600mls before . . . trying to convert from kms to mls . . .

The reminder is just that a reminder, not gospel and will come on based on the last time it was reset.  Go by miles and time.

service reminder is pre-set in the ecu/dash. If you take it in for a tune before it goes on, it will still come on when you reach the pre-determined mileage.

I shut off service lights when they are on but at a service I cannot re-set the clock, you need to wait until it goes on and then shut it off. Early monsters were the few bikes that would allow the end user to do it themselves. You would hold down one of the dash buttons and cycle the key and it would shut it off. All others would need someone with software to do it. It is a couple of minutes to shut it off so no big deal .

Thanks for the info, I was wondering if something was wrong. Too bad it doesn't count miles from when it was reset..
