does anyone know if you can fit the 4 piston brake calipers to the front of a 695 or s2r 800 with the original 300mm disc size with clearance to the front wheel?  probably more a 695 question with the 3 spoke wheel than the 5 spoke s2r.

anyone seen an adaptor to do this?

just formulating a plan.

I suspect clearance would be OK with some spacers on the hub to get the 300mm rotors outboard to the vicinity of where the regular 4-pot calipers live.

Tho it sounds like you're thinking about adapters for the calipers to get them to the proper diameter and inboard to get to the small discs, which would be the logical method.

My M750 equipped with one 4-pad caliper and the tapered 3-spoke has less than 6mm clearance.

i did realise i could just use the 1990 900ss 300mm disc, which has the normal 9.5mm offset.  they cleared the 3 spoke wheels ok with the old black calipers.

i guess i could start robbing the 851 for bits.  not like it's going to be ridden any time soon.  i could swap in the whole m1r front end for a more period feel.

I vote yes on that.

I never realized you were so fond of the M1R front ends.  ;D
It'd have the period look, but the period function seems a big penalty.

yes, they suck.  prior to that i'd been riding a bmw r1100s with ohlins front and rear.  the m1r is jurasic in comparison.  even after being played with they're still shit.

i'm wasting time making plans that'll probably never happen anyway.  like requiring caliper spacers to move calipers 10mm closer to the axle just so the look is right*

(*right meaning right imo of course, you might all think i'm nuts.  probably do anyway.  or just grumpy allegedly)

pulling the 851 apart for parts starts a slippery slope to more space taken storing shit i'll never get around to riding again anyway and a bike i love not being a bike.  even if i'm just walking past it 10 times a day and ignoring it.

Absolutely, it's starting down a bad road to scavenge off of the 851.
Easier to sell it on to a new home.
Not painless, but less painful.

(I'm assuming that I'm not making a suggestion akin to selling a child.)
