gday
my apoligies if this is another repeated question bang head
i have a 2008 S4RS
i want to change my front and rear sproket to the Ducati Performance lightened type originally for the appearance and to reduce rotating weight
i currently have 43t rear and a 15t front these are stock
it would seem that in order to keep this combination i need to drop to the P520 chain
i have read the past post regarding sprokets and havent been able to get the info i m after
i dont what to change the ride too much if at all,
what would be the result with the different sproket changes i.e. more or less touque top speed etc...
without getting to side tracked can someone give me the low down...
thankyou

I got a DP lightened front for the 525 chain and I would imagine a rear is avail too. Though I would HIGHLY recommend the 14t up front or adding 2-3 teeth on the rear. Though this effectively shortens the distance between the sprockets and you may or may not have enough room to adjust for 3 teeth but should for a 2 tooth addition. It usually equates to a 0.170 distance change per tooth added.

When I replace my chain I'm gonna go back to the 15t and up the rear to a 45. Pretty much the same gearing as a 14/43, a tad shorter but neglible.

The 14t has acclerated the wear on my chain but sure is fun! Enjoy!!

Punta,

Talk to Chris at Ca-Cycle works. The 520 quick change sprocket carrier is what you want. This carrier with a one steel or Al sprocket is way cheaper than just a DP rear sprocket.  A 14/43 gear is the best all round ratio for the S4RS IMHO. Top speed is still over 150 mph. It raises rpm by about 500. It makes 6th gear about 4000 rpm at 62 mph (100 kph). Without this mod 6th gear is useless much of the time if you have to abide by about a 60 mph speed limit.

In all due respect to the good people that way otherwise, the 14 tooth front does not accelerate chain wear at all and has no ill effects even with the rear ride height raised 1".  Chris at California Cycle works will confirm what I'm saying here. I have changed out two sets of chains and sprockets at a little over 15,000 mi. for reasons other than wear and the chains and sprockets still have a good deal of service life left in them at that.

The 520 with Al rear reduces weight by a couple of lbs. and some of that is unsprung rear axle which is a good thing. Steel is a much better choice however, if you put many miles on your scoot. The beauty of the quick change carrier is you can change rear sprockets in about 30 min.

You will need the DID chain rivet tool. They are about $120 (japan), but I found one exactly like it for $16 (china).
