Squeezing clutch slowly = bypass?

I just bought my monster and have been having trouble with the clutch system. The slave cylinder is stock but the PO installed a master from one of the super bikes. It had a bit of a mushy lever when I picked it up; so before I left, the PO spent a good two hours bleeding it for me. It still isn't right and every once in a while the lever wont disengage the clutch and I have to pump it a few times to get it to work.

I just installed a bleeder at the master and tried to re-bleed the system. The lever feels OK unless I squeeze slowly. If I squeeze too slowly, it will just push through like nothing is there.

Does this mean my master is in need of a rebuild or is this a symptom of air in a weird place in the system?

Does the system lose fluid?
Give it a good bleed yourself at both ends, one then the other. It can require patience and is a pita job if alot of air got in there.

Check the slave cylinder for leaks too.
Read the thread on clunky clutch also.
Thats a starting point then report back.
Cheers.

if the lever pulls in to the bars without pressure, and it's not leaking out anywhere, it needs a new master.  generally you can't get kits, and i often feel that fitting a rebuild kit doesn't address the bore condition, which is possibly the main issue.

if you can get it to pull in with pressure and hold pressure, maybe zip tie the lever in overnight.
