Yeah the hitch is rated for 600 lbs max load. With sport bikes plus the hauler you'll be under that, but I wouldn't go trying to tote a Harley around.

The paint job looks better in pictures than it does in person, it will be coming off soon.

No shit. If I'm sitting around where my wife can look over my shoulder, she hits me in the back of my head.

I think Nate can back this up.

Gravity is much stronger around a freshly painted shiny bike.

+1 (although I never learn and keep painting my bikes!)  laughingdp

If you have new leathers AND a newly painted bike, then you might as well just kick your bike over!

My leathers are nice and rashed up now, and my gloves.. and my boots... So you're saying all I've gotta do is keep the crap paint job on the CBR and I'm guaranteed success?

A buddy of mine raced in national SBK. As a privateer, he was chuffed with getting a great sponsor and new fairings, pro paint, logos, the whole deal. Crashed next race at 150mph, bike barrel rolled, flipped, tumbled, endoed and caught fire! Grin

I just replaced by fairings and new paint before my 130mph crash bang head

I've seriously got the worst luck when it comes to this stuff. This sport doesn't want me.

Hauled the CBR out into the country so I could take it for a spin, the first real ride since my initial test ride. It ran great for 5-10 minutes, then I heard a knock, then another knock, and in less than a minute it, as I was pulling off the side of the road, it sounded absolutely horrible, like it was knocking every revolution.

I tend to lean toward trusting the things the PO says. He says he took it to a track day earlier this spring and it ran great. Since then he had installed a Bazzaz fuel injection unit, and changed the oil. He had not ridden it hard with the Bazzaz unit hooked up. I found the oil level to be about a half quart or less too high. I took the spark plugs out to examine them, each one looked good and were tightened properly.

The bike starts right up and idles fine, for the few seconds I allow it to run with that terrible noise.

Any ideas?

Probably the wrong forum to ask for help on a Jap I4.

This isn't a CBR forum?

....

I've also started a thread on a Honda forum. There's plenty of experience milling around on here for more than just Monsters. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Ouch! I wouldn't start it anymore whatever you do. It needs to go to someone professional to have a listen and likely tear into it.

From the description, my 749 sounded like that once. It had a broken crank. No idea if that's you're problem though...the description just remined me of that.

The seller may not have known either...might just be bad luck on your part. I sold my 748 race bike to a guy, and it was running perfectly...great bike. His 2nd trackday on it the crank broke.  Tongue I felt a little bad, but not too much, as my new-to-me 749 race bike broke the crank the same track day!  Cry
