Just got confirmation from my local KTM dealer....

Seriously considering this over a ZX6R for my first track bike. It won't be out until 12/15 so if I wait it means one more season of track days on the stock M696. Also, I don't think I'll be able to race this locally if I decide to go that route. Anyone have any thoughts?

The RC390 looks sweet!

I think it will be a blast on the track, especially if you're into corner speed and aren't worried about haveing a ton of HP. I'm guessing it will need some suspension work, and some other minor bits to race. Should be fairly cheap to track/race otherwise.

I'm sure it will fit into a race class (CMRA?). If nothing else, there should be an Open Singles type of class where it could run...we have one, but I'm not familiar with the classes of other clubs. I also wouldn't be surprised to see most of the race clubs either create a class, or tweak an existing one, to allow it to race.

More than anything else it sounds like it'll need some brake work from the reviews I've seen.  Hopefully it wont be too hard to cadge some off some other models.

Looks like it will fit into most of the light and middleweight CCS classes although the displacement is unlimited for singles so you might be at a disadvantage against them, and there would be much larger twins in the class...ie Duc 800's.

It also fits into a LRRS specific class called Formula 300. That class looks like it was tailor made for the KTM.

That sounds about right for CMRA. I could race, sure...but I'd be up against bigger bikes.

Seriously sweet little bike, but you can buy a well equipped ZX6R for $4-5,000
My first dedicated track bike was an 06 ZX6R, and it was a great bike till it ate the tranny which 05-06 models are prone to do.
